Students completed a bellringer on subtraction of fractions which we then reviewed.  We then worked on Springboard lesson 4-3 which covered converting improper fractions to mixed numbers and mixed numbers to improper fractions,  students did very well with these concepts!  Students learned the MAD method, cloud method and "Division is the Action".  For homework tonight, students will work on their worksheet converting mixed numbers to improper fractions and converting improper fractions into mixed numbers.

Tuesday, October 13

Learning Target:  I can compare and order rational numbers (fractions and mixed numbers) on a number line using an inequality.

Students completed a bellringer on the addition of fractions.  The homework sheet over the comparision of fractions was checked and students had the chance to ask any questions if they had any misconceptions.  We then took a short quiz over comparing fractions which will help determine groups for later in the week for the student's learning check.  We also reviewed what a mixed number and an improper fraction was to help the students with tomorrows lesson on coverting from a mixed number to an improper fraction.

Learning Target: I can compare and order rational numbers (fractions) on a number line using an inequality

Today we finished up our Springboard lesson 4.2 (p. 52)  This lesson taught students to be able to compare fractions by finding a common denominator.  Students also took home a worksheet to help them practice with comparing fractions.  Students are to complete the odd numbered problems for homework.  We will check these worksheets tomorrow, (10/13/15)

Week of September 21

Monday:

Learning Targets: All Unit 1, Part A Learning Targets

During math class today, we will be reviewing for our test tomorrow over Unit 1, Part A.  Students are working on a review packet in groups of 4 over operations with decimals, finding the greatest common factor, finding the lowest common multiple, and factoring out the greatest common factor.  In the Unit 1, Part A file folder on my website will be the answer key for this review packet.  Don't forget to study for the test tomorrow!

Tuesday:

Learning Targets:  All Unit 1, Part A Learning Targets

At the beginning of class today, students will have the opportunity to ask questions about the test.  Students will then take the Unit 1, Part A Test in class today.

Wednesday:

Learning Targets:  All Unit 1, Part A Learning Targets

Students will have an opportunity to finish up their Unit 1, Part A Tests today if they are not finished.  When students finish with their test they will have a worksheet available to them on operations with fractions.

Thursday:

Learning Target:  I can fluently perform operations with rational numbers in a real-world context

Students will complete a bellringer on adding fractions which will lead us into today's lesson.  We will review operations with fractions with multiple activities.  These activities will be based on the worksheet students complete after their Unit 1, Part A Test.

Friday:

Learning Target: I can fluently perform operations with rational numbers in a real-world context

Students will complete a bellringer on subtracting fractions at the beginning of class.  Students will then take the Student Growth Goals Pre-Assessment 1.  This assessment is used by all of the 6th Grade Math Teachers and will help us to see how much a student grows in mathematics over the course of the year.  If students finish early they will continue to work on the activities from Thursday!
