The Campbell County Schools English Language (EL) program is designed to help students with limited English proficiency to speak, read, write and comprehend the English language, to provide students with equal access to the academic core curriculum, and to help students maintain a positive self-concept. Campbell County Schools will accommodate ELLs’ language needs in the classroom and, in some cases, provide direct language instruction to help the students attain English language proficiency.
Each school in our district will notify the ELL Teacher Specialist when a Home Language Survey indicates a language other than English is spoken. The ELL Teacher Specialist will test the student and determine if the student has limited English proficiency. A Program Services Plan (PSP) is created with a committee that includes parents. The PSP is a document that details a student's assessments, language goals, exiting information and accommodations. PSP's are monitored throughout the school year and student progress is communicated regularly through reports and assessments such as the ACCESS test for English Proficiency. Parents are welcome to meet with school/district personnel to discuss any questions or concerns.
