Our school counselors have designed a program utilizing the Student Success Skills and Second Step Programs. In addition to these programs, sessions will include review of state testing results from KPREP and/or EXPLORE depending upon the grade-level of the student. Students will use these results to set goals for their performance on this years state assessments.
In addition to these activities, sessions will also be used to review and inform our students on topics such as safe use of the internet and social media sites. Information regarding bullying and how to respond to bullying situations will also be presented. Session topics were scheduled to coordinate with the Student Success Skills and Second Step Programs as well as the activities that occur at that time of the year throughout the year. For example, we expect test results back around the end of September or beginning of October. To ensure that we have those materials here and ready to use, the session on KPREP is in November and the goal-setting activity is scheduled for April just prior to our students taking the test.
Many of these activities were things that were done previously but we had to interrupt our schedules to do them. With this program, we have the time already built in and our topics already assigned. Our school counselors have worked very hard and have done a great job with the development and design of our program. We are all very excited about the opportunities that this program will offer our students and school.
