GEOMETRY IN THE NEW WORLD
 

                                                    

Introduction:
It is the 17th century.  You have finally decided to leave your home in Europe and travel to the New World.  After three months of seasickness, sharing quarters with strangers, eating next to nothing daily, and risking your life against storms of the seas, you have landed in America.  Winter is fast approaching and you need a home for you and your family.

Task:
Your task is to learn about geometric shapes in order to know how to build your house.  You will also have to take a tour of some of the architecture of the 17th century.  Once you have gathered all this knowledge, you will be designing your own home for you and your family.

Process:
You will first go to the web site and read about the different shapes, some of this will be review.  Next, you will go to the second site and play a game using the geometric shapes.  You must click on the correct shape that matches the "flash card" at the bottom of the screen and click on "enter".  Finally, you will look at some examples of 17th century homes.  Remember to write down any information you may want to use later.  After you finish each site, click the "Back" button to return to this page.

Evaluation:
You have been on an adventurous journey.  You have learned all about geometric shapes and how 17th century homes looked.  Now, you will need to return to your seat and design a home for you and your family.  Be sure to hurry, winter is fast approaching.
