GLE Recognized for Service Learning Work
The National Center for Learning and Citizenship (NCLC) at the Education Commission of the States (ECS) just released a series of case studies that examines the link between service-learning and the Common Core State Standards (download the PDF).
NCLC staff visited four diverse sites—from urban Chicago to rural Kentucky—in an effort to determine whether and how high-quality service-learning is utilized as a teaching strategy for implementation of the Common Core. The report includes recommendations for the types of supports teachers and administrators need to effectively implement the Common Core using service-learning, which is strategy that is proven to foster student development of the deeper learning emphasized by the Common Core. Congratulations to Grant's Lick Elementary for being cited as one of the four sites recognized for high quality service learning! CARDINAL PRIDE!
