Kentucky High Attendance Day attendance matters

The “High Attendance Day Competition” date has been set for schools in the Commonwealth of Kentucky for Thursday, September 20th.

Elementary, middle and high schools will compete in small or large school categories with the chance to win awards based on their attendance numbers on this date. The school in each category with the highest percentage attendance on Sept. 20 will win $500.

Please help us make Campbell County Schools a leader in High Attendance and ensure your child is attending school on the 20th and every other day of the year!

State High Attendance Day is a great reminder that all students need to be in school every day. Research tells us that a child’s attendance record is one of the strongest predictors of that child’s academic success. LET’S MAKE EVERY DAY COUNT!

Campbell Co. School empowers students to think more about their own Safety

Campbell County Schools officials are using a grant of nearly $5 million to explore innovative ways to confront the lethal problem of school violence that have claimed the lives of students in places like Parkland, Florida. They are training students that were selected by their peers, whom are called student brokers, to talk about and teach how others how to stand up. The goal is for the student brokers to take a stand against bullying and to keep an eye out for potentially violent behavior.

2018-19 Classrooms teacher

Have you started thinking about the 2018-19 school year yet?  We have, and one of our important jobs is to begin creating classrooms for next year.  The first step in this process is to allow parents an opportunity to provide information about their child that they feel will be helpful as we create classrooms.  This does not mean requesting a specific teacher; CRES does not accept requests for specific teachers.

If you would like to provide us with information about your child to help when we create classes for next year, please complete the form linked below and return it to school by May 4th.

KPREP Results Released believe

How does 5.3 sound to ya’?  That’s the improvement that our Comets brought home on the KPREP test just reported this week.  Increasing our score from 65.7 to 71.0 and moving into the Proficient-Progressing category is great news for CRES.  We saw increases in Reading and in Math and we achieved these increases with ALL students.  As you know, we monitor our results to ensure that ALL students are making progress and that no student groups are being left behind.  Specifically, we are monitored to ensure that we reduce the percentage of students that are scoring Novice and we reduced those Novice numbers across the board as well.  We are very proud of these accomplishments.  We are not quite where we want to be yet but we are making very good progress toward our goals and we will continue to work hard to ensure significant learning for all of our students this year.  You can see our KY School Report Card at the KY Dep’t of Education website and here.

Camel Athletic Boosters - The Booster Bash

It is time to create a new Strategic Plan for Campbell County Schools. We would like to invite you to provide input, helping us generate a new plan and a CCS GRADUATE PROFILE. What is a graduate profile? A graduate profile will specify and set targets for the academic, personal, and interpersonal competencies that each student should have when they graduate high school in order to be successful in College, Career and Life.
To gain input, we are holding community conversations at each of our elementary schools during the course of the next several months. Whether you are a business owner, community member, elementary, middle school or high school parent, grandparent or student, we encourage you to attend the most convenient one of these sessions to participate in a conversation, facilitated by Dr. Rust. We would also like to ask you to share this message with friends and family on your Facebook timeline to encourage participation. We really do want to hear from you!

Here are the dates, locations and times:

Mason Appointed to Fill Vacant Board Seat

CAMPBELL COUNTY SCHOOLS- Mr. Rich Mason, of California, KY, has been appointed to fill the vacant seat to the Campbell County Board of Education for District #5.  Mr. Mason was one of two applicants who were interviewed by a designee of the Kentucky Education Commissioner Stephen Pruitt.  By statute, the commissioner of education is responsible for filling any and all vacancies to board office seats that occur between elections.  Neither the local board of education nor the district administration have any involvement in the selection of board appointees.

Mr. Mason was sworn in on August 1st and will commence with his board duties effective immediately. Mr. Mason will serve until the next general election which will occur in November of 2018, at which time someone will be elected to complete the remaining two years until the term is complete in December of 2020.

Mr. Mason has previous experience as a member of the Campbell County Board of Education, serving from January 2005 until December 2016.  He was narrowly defeated in the November 2016 election by Judge Tim Nolan, who resigned his post in April 2017.

For any questions, please contact Ms. Connie Pohlgeers or Dr. David Rust at 859-635-2173.

Principal Mazzei Seeks Support for Let Me Run Program

Campbell Ridge Elementary Principal, Tony Mazzei, is using his love of running to propel the “Let Me Run” program at his school into the national spotlight.  Let Me Run, founded in Charlotte, North Carolina in 2009, is a non-profit wellness program that inspires boys to be themselves, be active and belong. Mazzei hopes to promote the program by running as a Let Me Run representative in the New York City Marathon on November 4, 2018.

The program at Campbell Ridge, led by Principal Mazzei, is built around a comprehensive curriculum that applies the power of running to encourage boys to develop their psychological, emotional and social health, as well as their physical health.  Twice a week, for seven weeks, Mazzei leads the elementary team through practice.  Designed to amplify confidence, self-expression and respect for others, each practice includes a lesson from the Let Me Run Curriculum that incorporates running, games and activities.  Each fall and spring season culminates in a 5K race that celebrates the boys’ personal growth.

Congratulations to our 5th Grade Comets!

Campbell Ridge bids a "fond adieu" to our 5th graders as they journey to the middle school.  Enjoy this video tribute!

CCS Preschool Program Receives 5 Stars

Kentucky All STARS is Kentucky’s expanded five-star quality rating and improvement system for early care and education programs. Studies show that children who attend high quality early learning environments have better math, language and social skills. The unified system serves all early care and education programs that receive public funding including child care centers, Head Start and public preschool. Kentucky All STARS is based on Kentucky’s Early Childhood Standards and research-based indicators of quality. It recognizes programs that have made a commitment to continuous quality improvement.

Each CCS elementary school houses a preschool program classroom and each classroom has been awarded the highest quality rating of five stars. The schools were notified on January 4, 2017 and the quality rating for each program will be in force until 2020. CCS is very proud of our preschool programs.

Campbell County School Receives 4.9 Million in Federal Funding for Comprehensive School Safety Work

Youth violence continues to be a significant concern in US schools, yet no study has focused on using networked school-aged peers to report and mitigate instances of bullying, peer conflict and/or school violence.  Campbell County School District was notified late last week that they have received 4.9 million dollars in funding from the National Institute of Justice (NIJ) to do just that.   The district pursued this competitive research grant in May of 2016 as part of the NIJ Comprehensive School Safety Initiative.  The goal of this initiative is to improve the safety of our nation’s schools and students through rigorous research that produces practical knowledge. Click here for the entire press release about this wonderful opportunity for our students.

Campbell Nationally Ranked – 9th time in 4 years

CAMPBELL COUNTY SCHOOLS – Campbell County School District learned this week that Campbell County High School has received yet another national ranking. CCHS was ranked as one of “America’s Most Challenging High Schools” by the Washington Post with Campbell County High School ranking 9th out of all public high schools in the State of Kentucky.  Schools who are national ranked are given an index score.   The index score is the number of college-level tests given at a school in the previous calendar year divided by the number of graduates that year. Also noted are the percentage of students who come from families that qualify for lunch subsidies (Subs. lunch) and the percentage of graduates who passed at least one college-level test during their high school career, called equity and excellence, (E&E).

This is the 9th National Ranking for the NKY Campbell County School System in four years. (See rankings below).  The district is also classified as a Distinguished/Progressing District on Kentucky State Assessments.

Prichard Committee for Academic Excellence Parent Leadership Training Available

The Prichard Committee for Academic Excellence will bring a new parent leadership training one-day “basecamp” to northern Kentucky in April. The camp will give parents a look inside public education in Kentucky and provide them with tools to effectively engage in their children’s school, said Helen Carroll, NKY parent leadership coordinator. Since 1997, the Prichard Committee has trained more than 300 northern Kentucky parents through the Governor’s Commonwealth Institute for Parent Leadership. GCIPL is a five-day training that gives parents a deep dive into public education, including the Kentucky Academic Standards, accountability, school data and school governance.

Last year, northern Kentucky superintendents suggested that Pritchard help parents and community members become in engaged in efforts to support achievement for all students. The Prichard Committee responded to the call and created this one-day training program, open to any parent in Boone, Kenton, Campbell, Pendleton, Grant, Bracken or Gallatin counties. The training will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. April 29 at the Kenton County Public Library in Covington. There is no cost and meals will be provided.
